Edo State as a metaphor for tongue-in-cheek, empty promises; first it was the Benin River Port, then the industrial park in Benin (even flagged off by the past Vice president).
What of the cargo Airport in Edo North? Or the integrated farm projects across the State. Benin Abraka road reconstruction nko? Another empty promise too abi. What of Ekehuan road that was supposed to run all the way to Gelegele but abandoned with less than a fifth of the road done? Or the Ugbiyokho road that the State government prevented the federal government from executing because the State had a reconstruction contract on the road? How far with that project? What of the wake and see junctions improvement projects whose computer graphics still litter our junctions?
Does anybody remember the promise for broad band, fiber optics internet in all the 18 local government headquarters? How about the project to build alternative roads to interconnect Edo towns instead of the Federal roads? Even the Riceman felt no shame in lying that there are PHCs being built across the 192 wards of the State. Let us not even bother with the so-called computerised schools aka Edobest program. 7 years down the line and the school of Agriculture is still under lock and key! The litany of failed promises lengthens by the day.
Now the “Chosen One” has added a new promise, to build railways to connect the three Senatorial districts?! Clearly, Oga and his Chosen are reading from the same book of promises. Afterall, birds of a feather flocks together. This is truly Making Edo Gaunt Already!! Chai!!! Make una kwantinu…
