The Supreme Court has set Friday, January 12, as the date for its decision in an appeal filed by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf against the Court of Appeal’s finding.
Metrowatchxtra.com recalls that the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sacked Yusuf, who was elected under the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP.
The court had directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to give a certificate of return to Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, the APC candidate in the March 2023 poll.
Governor Yusuf, however, was dissatisfied with the verdict and petitioned the Appeal Court.
While upholding his dismissal, the appeal court also stated that the governor was not a member of the NNPP at the time of the election.
The governor and his party resolved to terminate the case at the Supreme Court by appealing the earlier verdicts.
Barrister Bashir Tudun Wuzirci, the NNPP’s legal team secretary, told Daily Trust on Wednesday that the supreme court had set Friday for the judgment.
“Yes, it is officially confirmed. They have told us to appear on Friday for the judgment.
“They told us that each party should not have more than two counsels in attendance.
“This, they said, is because they will be delivering seven judgments on that same Friday,” he said.
