The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election, Peter Obi, has congratulated Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen for winning the Italian Footballers’ Association Footballer of the Year.
Obi penned down his congratulatory message on his X handle on Wednesday, December 6.
The former Anambra State governor said that irrespective of the obstacles on the way to success, the Nigerian youths always rise and succeed.
Obi’s tweet read, “I would like to heartily congratulate our international superstar, #victorosimhen9
, who just won the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) Player of the Year award for the 2022–23 Serie A season.
“Such success stories of Nigerian youths as this are not only heartwarming but rekindle the fire of hope for a better tomorrow.
“My mission is to see a New Nigeria where every youth will have the platform to explore their talents, develop their skills, contribute to national development, and compete effectively on the global stage.
“This is my dream of a New Nigeria which is becoming more POssible by the day”.
Osimhen’s 26 goals were instrumental in helping the Partenopei win their first Scudde in 33 years.
He was also the first Nigerian to be named in the top ten of the Ballon d’Or and also made the final shortlist for the 2023 CAF Footballer of the Year.
