Aisha Ibrahim who is a senior staff of the Borno State ministry of information has emerged new National Chairperson of the Nigerian Association of women journalists (NAWOJ).
Comrade Aisha Ibrahim who is winning the election after two consecutive attempts is a graduate of mass communications from the University of Maiduguri.
In her acceptance speech, just after the election, she congratulated all nawojians for a successful election and maintained that a string of reforms aimed at returning full loyalty to the Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ  will be introduced from today to create a reformed NAWOJ.
To this end, she further informed members that henceforth she should be addressed as National Chairperson of NAWOJ against the former appellation of President which has been reserved solely for the NUJ President.
She said that all state chairpersons will also be known as state coordinators and pledged the loyalty of the entire NAWAOJ to the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by President Chris Isiguzo.
The election was conducted to elect leaders for the next three years during the 11th triennial delegates conference of NAWOJ in Abuja over the weekend.
Comrade Aisha Ibrahim actually defeated the incumbent Ladi Bala with a total number of  498 votes against Bala’s 381 votes in a fiercely contested election which kept campaigners on ground and online on edge.
The National Chairperson as she is now known has since  been  sworn into office even as she pledged to protect the interest of women journalists while carrying out reforms that will uplift NAWOJ to the next level.
