Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State is leading in the state’s governorship election conducted last Saturday with over 65,000 votes.
Diri, who is seeking reelection, contested under the Peoples People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
His closest rival and former minister (state) petroleum resources and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva, is trailing behind with about 110,000 votes.
After the result of Southern Ijaw was declared, the margin between Diri and his closest challenger, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), climbed to 65,088.
Diri polled a total of 175,196 votes while Sylva trailed with 110,108 votes.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are putting famishing touches to the exercise at the collation centre in Yenagoa, the state capital as prelude to declaring the incumbent and candidate of the PDP as winner of the election.
