The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, has reacted to a reported abuse of a pregnant woman by her husband, stating that marriage is not by force.
On his X page on Friday, Edafe reacted to a report by Delta State activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, who raised the alarm about a pregnant woman undergoing abuse.
Gwamnishu wrote, “Att: #Brightgoldenboy
I received this message and I wish you help intervene as it’s happening in Warri, Delta State.
“Good morning Sir, I’m 7 months pregnant and I have been suffering all kinds of abuse by my husband, beats me , locks me out of the house most times, forcefully collects my savings and torture me .
“As am talking to u right now he locked me up in the house went away with the keys without food or water to drink.
“This one is happening in Warri. We will investigate and update shortly. LOCATION: Okukooko by Nehemiah school Warri.”
In response to the tweet, Edafe wrote, “Direct her to the nearest Police station and also advise her that marriage is not by force. She can get out while she is still alive.”
