The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday in Abuja bowed to the order of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in the matter of former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele was hauled before the court in accordance with Justice Olukayode Adeniyi’s directive after being detained by the Federal Government security services for more than 150 days.

Around 12:30, the former CBN Governor—clad in a yellow Babariga and a matching Hausa cap—entered the courtroom, surrounded by a security detail of EFCC agents.

His friends and relatives had besieged the court premises, waiting for the arrival of the judge for a hearing in his fundamental human rights suit.

Justice Adeniyi had on Monday reaffirmed his order that the detained former CBN governor be brought to court today, November 8, to admit him to bail.

He had, in the alternative, directed the anti-graft agency to either grant bail to Emefiele on its own or allow the court to do so in line with the provisions of the law on fundamental human rights.
