Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority rescued a commercial bus driver and passengers with varying degrees of injuries, swiftly transferring them to a nearby hospital after an unpainted commercial bus (FKJ 366 XT) rammed into a loaded containerised trailer on outer Marina Road.
This was made known in a statement signed by the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr Adebayo Taofiq.
The accident, which occurred at approximately 7:02 a.m. on Thursday, was primarily a consequence of over-speeding that resulted in a brake failure, leading to the collision.
Adebayo reported that the agency’s personnel stationed along the route immediately sprang into action upon receiving the distress call. They worked tirelessly to rescue the passengers and driver trapped in the commercial bus, receiving invaluable support from compassionate road users.
Adebayo confirmed that the quick response was further strengthened by the presence of police officers from Lion Building, led by the Divisional Crime Officer, who provided vital security assistance throughout the rescue operation.
Ashafa Moyosore, popularly known as “Zebra 1”, and Olowu, who spearheaded the rescue efforts, said, “All the passengers, including the driver, have been safely transported to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.”
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, issued a stern warning to the motoring public, mainly commercial bus drivers, urging them to exercise caution and restraint and strictly adhere to speed limits when navigating the roads of Lagos, especially during the ongoing ember months.
