For Monday’s friendly match against the Mambas of Mozambique, Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro said he had acceptable alternatives for the pair of Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Osimhen and Iheanacho are no longer eligible to play in the match at Estadio Municipal de Albufeira.
The players have departed the team’s training camp in Portugal, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced in a press statement.
Osimhen sustained a hamstring injury in the Super Eagles’ 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia on Friday.
Iheanacho was released from camp for personal reasons.
Peseiro however stated that there is enough quality in the team to cope with the two players absence.
“We will miss Kelechi and Victor, but we have other good players who can make Nigeria proud. I look at the bench and see players who can step up and take their chances,” Peseiro told thenff.com.
Monday’s meeting will be the fifth clash between Nigeria and Mozambique at senior level.
