The Rivers State Police Command has detained six people concerning the murder of SP Bako Angbashim, the late Divisional Police Officer in command of the Ahoada Police Division.
In order to retrieve the dead DPO’s body, the command conducted an operation at the Odumude village in Ahoada East Local Government Area.
Nwonyi Emeka, the state commissioner of police, led the operation, which resulted in the recovery of a locally-made firearm and several charms.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement, said the suspects and the confiscated items are currently in police custody.
She also added that the suspects are undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Port Harcourt.
Iringe-Koko said as a result of the development, residents of Odumude community have fled the area.
A new DPO, SP Zuokumor Richard, has been assigned to the Ahoada division, she added.
The statement revealed that the new Ahoada DPO was accompanied by half a unit of men from Mopol 48, one-third unit from Mopol 19, 56, and tactical teams.
It noted that SP Richard had been tasked with a thorough search of the area, apprehension of the culprits responsible for the DPO’s demise, recovery of his body, and location of any operational weapons used.
