The Presidential Election Petitions Court has dismissed Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s 25 per cent FCT votes, with a ruling that Abuja is like the other 36 states and treated as a state.
According to the Tribunal, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) residents have no special privileges as the petitioners (Obi, LP) claimed in their petitions.
Recall that Obi who polled 25 per cent votes in the February 25, 2023 election in FCT, is challenging President Bola Tinubu’s declaration as the winner of the poll, on the ground that Tinubu failed to poll the constitutionally required 25 per cent in FCT.
But, according to the Tribunal, Abuja is like every other 36 states and treated as 37th state during elections and residents in the state have no special privileges.
