President Bola Tinubu has sent his condolences to the family of Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of the national flag, who died on Wednesday.
The President added in a statement published on Wednesday by his spokeswoman, Ajuri Ngelale, that Akinkunmi, who designed the flag in 1958, left a generational heritage.
Tinubu expressed condolences to the retired public servant’s friends and acquaintances, saying he “dedicated his life to the service of the nation, sharing knowledge and experience with old and young, and inspiring many to think and act patriotically.”
The President reiterated that the green and white flag is a heritage that has consistently symbolized the nation’s fruitfulness, resilience, and unity.
According to the statement, the president “believes Pa Akinkunmi lived and worked for the greatness of the country and rests eternally in a place of honour in Nigeria’s history.”
