The Deputy Governor of Edo state, Comrade Phillip Shuaibu has been called upon to apologize to the people of Edo and Delta states for trying to disrupt the occasion of the celebration of the 60 years of the referendum that created the Midwest Region which was held in Benin City recently.

The statement released in Abuja by a public affairs analyst, Mr. Odeh Ekpoma said the Deputy Governor exercised poor judgment by his wanton display of brashness and disorderliness in trying to get his media team into the venue of the event without accreditation.

“It is embarrassing that the Deputy Governor does not realise the significance of the day and thought his media team was more important than the marking of the event that started the journey of the creation of the state that made it possible for him to be Deputy Governor” Mr. Ekpoma stated.

The statement added that it is important for Comrade Shuaibu to make a public apology to the two states and all the present and former governors who were at the event who understood the significance of the day by their presence while the Deputy Governor orchestrated a raucous scene and stormed out of the most important event to the people of Edo and Delta states.

Mr. Ekpoma added that “the Deputy Governor unfortunately displayed his ignorance of history and would otherwise have known the uniqueness of the referendum in the history of Nigeria and also displayed a lack of respect for elders as the hall was full of the who is who in the modern traditional and political class of the two states and Bayelsa state.

The public affairs analyst concluded that this is an indication that the political parties and the public must continue to properly vet the people they pick or elect into public office.
