The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has hosted four Abia-born Super Falcons players in his country home at Isiala Ngwa South LGA of the state.
The governor made this known on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday.
Sharing photos Otti said, “Yesterday, I received our Super Falcons players from Abia State (Uchenna Kanu, Esther Okoronkwo, Christy Ucheibe, and Glory Ogbonna), who made their mark at the just concluded FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
“Although luck may not have been on their side to advance to the Quarterfinals, their performance showcased their resilience and character.
“The accomplishments of these players highlight the progress and development of women’s football in Nigeria and further elevate the profile of Nigerian football on the international stage.
” I am sure their achievements will inspire the girl child in Nigeria and Abia in particular, thus paving the way for even greater success in the future.
Otti, his wife, Pricilla, and some of his aides played host to the Falcons, with the governor and his wife praising the players for displaying uncommon gallantry and patriotism at the just concluded FIFA Female World Cup hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The Abia Governor, who commended the Falcons players for making Abia State and Nigeria proud through their wonderful outing, said they had become role models for youths in Abia and Nigeria at large.
The Falcons players honoured were Glory Ogbonna who hails from Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Christy Ucheibe from Isuikwuato LGA, Uchenna Kanu from Uzuakoli, Bende LGA, as well as Esther Okoronkwo.
