Lionel Messi, captain of Inter Miami, has expressed his joy after winning his first title with the club on Saturday.
Messi guided Inter Miami to a stunning penalty shootout victory against Nashville in the Leagues Cup final at Geodis Park.
In the first half, Argentina’s captain broke the tie with a magnificent long-range shot.
However, his goal was cancelled out in the second half by Fafa Picault, who tapped home from close range as the match concluded in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.
Inter Miami went on to win the League Cup with a 10-9 penalty shootout victory.
During the shootout, Messi did score his penalty.
Reacting, Messi, in a post via his Instagram account, hoped the Leagues Cup victory will be the beginning of many more trophies Inter Miami will win.
He wrote: “CHAMPIONS!!!. Very happy to get the first title in this club’s history. Everyone’s hard work and commitment made it possible. Hopefully, this is just the beginning… Let’s go @intermiamicf!!!!”
