Oyo State’s Governor Seyi Makinde has declared August 20th of each year to be Isese Day.
On Friday, Makinde made this declaration.
According to Metrowatch, followers of traditional religions in the state have recently sought their own official holiday.
In honor of Isese Day, they have requested that the state government designate August 20 as their own official holiday.
The governor has finally complied with the traditional religion adherents’ request by designating August 21, 2023, as the first state holiday to honor the occasion.
In recognition of Isese Day in the state, he further said that the 20th of August will be honored as a public holiday every year.
The statement from the governor was signed by Professor Olanike Adeyemo, the Oyo State Government Secretary.
The governor invited state residents who practice traditional religions to use the occasion to pray for the peace, harmony, and stability of the state specifically and of the nation generally.
