The removal of petroleum subsidy has seriously affected transportation and other businesses in Zamfara State, with the price skyrocketing to over N590 per litre on Tuesday.
An investigation carried out by reporters clearly revealed that most motorcycle riders and commercial vehicle owners have parked their motorcycles and cars due to low patronage.
One of the residents, Usaman Tsafe told reporters that his children have stopped attending schools as he was not able to meet up with their school fees, saying that even feeding has become a teething problem in his household.
“I don’t have money to transport myself to my destination so I now trek to work”, he added.
Some other people interviewed by our correspondent also lamented that even civil servants could not afford two square meals a day due to the harsh economic environment.
