The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has announced that the Monetary Policy Committee would meet for the first time next Monday and Tuesday without the bank’s suspended governor, Godwin Emefiele.
CBN announced this in a message posted on its website on Monday.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at the CBN’s headquarters in Abuja.
The MPC, the CBN’s top policy-making institution, will make crucial judgments on Nigeria’s growing inflation rate of 22.79 percent, currency market concerns, and other economic issues.
To combat increasing inflation, the MPC hiked the Monetary Policy Rate to 18.5 percent in May, up from 18 percent the previous month.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration dismissed Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria in January.
