A prophet named Philip Segun, 42, and Owolabi Adeeko, 23, were both given the death penalty by the Osun State High Court in Ikire for the murder of one Favour Daley Oladele.
Additionally, they received a 14-year prison term for conspiracy.
Bola Adeeko, Owolabi’s mother, was found guilty and given a two-year prison term for cannibalism.
Oladele was a final-year student at Lagos State University (LASU) before she met her end at the hands of the two.
Owolabi Adeeko and the deceased met as students at Lagos State University (LASU), where they had been dating for months.
Justice Christiana Olokede Obadina announced the verdict on Monday.
The prosecution attorney’s case was found to be beyond a reasonable doubt by the court.
They were charged with two counts of violating Sections 324 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Laws of Osun State, 2002, which have to do with conspiracy and murder.
The defendants committed the crime on December 8, 2019, and they were arraigned in court on November 15, 2021, according to Adekemi Bello, the prosecuting attorney.
She said, “Owolabi lured Favour Daley Oladele, his girlfriend, through a mobile call, on the 8th December, 2019, to come and meet his uncle at Ikoyi-Ile.
“Before that day, Owolabi Adeeko and his mother and Bola Adeeko had contacted the Cherubim and Cherubim Church, Solution Chapel, Ikoyi-Ile belonging to Prophet Philip Segun, seeking money (wealth) ritual.
“Miss Favour Daley (deceased), a girlfriend to Owolabi Adeeko left her residence in Mowe Ogun State, on invitation from Owolabi and arrived at Ikoyi-Ile, Osun State.
“On her arrival, Owolabi took Favour to Prophet Philip Segun’s Church, where she was killed and dismembered, and her heart was cooked for Bola Adeeko to eat to get wealth, while some other parts of the body was used to make victory soap for Bola Adeeko as well.”
