Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed on Monday represented the party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi at the resume sitting of the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) in Abuja.
Monday’s sitting was in anticipation of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s lead of defence (as 1st Respondent) in the petition by Obi and LP challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25, 2023 presidential election.
Fireworks were expected as all the legal bigwigs of all teams were present in court when INEC announced that their intended three witnesses could not make it to court because of “domestic situation.”
Lead counsel for the electoral body, AB Mahmoud, SAN, thereafter, sought for an adjournment from the Tribunal.
All the other Respondents (Tinubu/Shettima, APC) and the Petitioners (Obi and LP) did not object to the request.
Subsequently, the Justice Haruna Tsammani-led PEPC adjourned to Tuesday, July 4.
However, the court is expected to resume by 2.00 pm for Atiku vs Tinubu in the petition by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
