Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Hope Uzodinma, the governor of Imo State have spoken on the Alaba International Market’s demolition.

Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, was also present at the meeting, which took place yesterday in Lagos.

After the meeting, Sanwo-Olu declared it a success and noted that topics of shared interest were covered.

The Lagos governor said, “The meeting had gone on very successfully, where we discussed issues around a common interest, and especially issues around the demolition of Alaba market.

“There has been a lot of wrong information and communication. Our conversation this afternoon has cleared the air and we have seen the need for further collaboration and where wrongs have been expressed we corrected.”

The state of Lagos’s government has started the process of tearing down troubled structures at the Alaba International Market’s Ojo Local Government Area.

The collaborative exercise was started by the enforcement team of the Lagos State Task Force and the Lagos State Building Control Agency, or LASBCA.

The affected business owners and several Igbo organisations had denounced the destruction and said they were being singled out because of the intrigues surrounding the 2023 presidential race.
