Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have kidnapped seven off-campus students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), in Plateau State.
The students were kidnapped in the early hours of Wednesday at about 2:am, at a private hostel close to the former Nigerian School of Accountancy, along Bauchi Ring Road in Jos North Council Area while studying for their ongoing second-semester examination.
An Eyewitness, Moses James, told ait.live that the kidnappers stormed the hostel and broke into the room where the students were studying, held them hostage at gunpoint for close to thirty minutes before forcing them into a waiting vehicle, and later whisked them away.
The Plateau State Police Command through its spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo Confirmed the development to ait.live and said a joint team of the Police, Special Taskforce Operation Safe Haven and the hunters have since gone after the abductors for possible rescue of the victims.
As at the time of filing in this report, authorities at the University of Jos are yet to issue an official statement over the incident.
