The Guinness World Records (GWR) has explained why it deducted about 7 hours from Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci’s 100-hour cooking marathon record.
METROWATCHXTRA.COM recalls that Baci, whose full name is Hilda Effiong Bassey, from May 11 to 15, cooked for 100 hours non-stop, breaking India’s Lata Tondon’s 87 hours, 45 minutes record of uninterrupted cooking in the process.
On Tuesday, the organisation finally certified Baci as the latest world record holder for the “longest cooking marathon (individual)” but deducted about 7 hours from the 100-hour cooking record.
In a statement announcing Baci as the latest record holder, GWR said it took the decision to deduct about 7 hours from Baci’s 100-hour record because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks earlier on in the attempt.
“Hilda attempted to set a record of 100 hours, however, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks earlier on in the attempt,” GWR explained.
With this development, Baci is now officially the latest record holder with 93 hours, 11 minutes deposing India’s Lata Tondon, who set the record in 2019 after completing her cooking marathon in 87 hours, 45 minutes.
