The family of late Chief M. K. O Abiola has demanded apology from former military head of state, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) for annulling the June 12 1993 presidential election.
Alhaja Amina Irawo made the demand on behalf of the family at the commemoration of the 2023 Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration, held at late Abiola’s residence at Ikeja, Lagos on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the former military head of state had annulled the poll acclaimed to be won by the late MKO Abiola.
According to her, we want IBB to apologise and announce late Abiola as winner of of the 1993 presidential election.
“President Bola Tinubu should declare late Chief MKO Abiola winner and announce him president-elect of the June 12 presidential election.
“We urge the president to also give the family all late M.K.O Abiola’s entitlements from June 12, 1993 till date.
“Tinubu should honour one of late Abiola’s wives, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, who died for the struggle for democracy.
“He should honour her as first lady of “Hope 93″ and give her children all the entitlements due to her.”
Irawo who is also a human rights activist and Founder of House of Politics, urged the Sanwo-Olu administration to give late MKO Abiola’s house in Lagos a befitting face lift due to a president.
Reacting, Sanwo-Olu who was represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, pledged that the house would be taken care of.
The governor urged all to continue to pray that God protected and sustained the family while he enjoined the people to come together to build a nation that all would be proud of.
NAN also reports that a letter of all the requests was presented to the governor for upward transmission to the President.
Also a wreath was laid by the governor at the graveside of late Chief MKO Abiola.
