President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday met with the group of five members of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also known as the G-5 Governors or the Integrity Group.

Members of the G-5 include Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and former Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).

The current Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah was also present at the meeting.

The G-5 caused a major division within the PDP after demanding that the then National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, a Northerner, step down for a Southern replacement as a pre-condition to support the presidential ambition of the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, another Northerner.

According to the PDP bigwigs, it was unfair for the party’s National Chairman and presidential candidate to come from the same region.

Makinde and Wike reportedly played supportive roles to Tinubu to ensure his victory at the February 25, 2023 presidential election by allegedly working against Atiku and the PDP.

Tinubu had last Friday met with Wike and Makinde alongside James Ibori, a former governor of Delta State and chieftain of the PDP who is currently at loggerheads with the immediate-past Governor of Delta, Ifeanyi Okowa, over the control of the PDP in Delta.
