Israel have sent the ‘almighty’ five-time winner Brazil packing from the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup with a 3-2 match in the quarter-finals played at the San Juan Stadium, Saturday night.

After a goalless first half, Brazil opened scoring in the 56th minute through Marcos Leonardo. But four minutes later, Israel equalised through Anan Khalaili.

With nine minutes remaining in regulation time, Brazil regained the lead through Matheus Nascimento. But Israel responded two minutes later with another equaliser — through Hamza Shibli — that dragged the game into extra time.

In the 105th minute, Dor Turgeman scored the winner goal for Israel who becomes the first team to proceed into the semi-finals.
