The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has congratulated Nigeria’s Flying Eagles following their victory against hosts Argentina at the ongoing 2023 U-20 World Cup.
Also, Technical director, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Austin Eguavoen has congratulated the Flying Eagles over the team’s shock win against Argentina Wednesday night.
Taking to Twitter, CAF wrote, “Knockout hosts. On to the quarters.
“It’s an African party in South America! 🥳 NAIJA FEVER! 🇳🇬.”
On his part, Eguavoen, a former Super Eagles head coach, felicitated with Nigeria’s head coach Bosso and his team on Twitter.
“FIFA duties at the U-20 World Cup in Argentina! Congratulations to Ladan Bosso on reaching the FIFA U-20 World Cup Quarter Final! We keep on soaring,” he wrote.
Despite going into Wednesday’s round of 16 clash as underdogs, the Flying Eagles shocked Argentina 2-0.
Ibrahim Muhammad gave the Nigerian team the lead in the 61st minute before Haliru Sarki made it 2-0 on 91 minutes.
It was the Flying Eagles’ first win against Argentina at the U-20 World Cup and also their first against a South American country in the competition.
Nigeria will play the winner of the game between Ecuador and South Korea in the quarter-final on June 4 at the Santiago del Estero.
The last time the Flying Eagles made it to the quarter-finals of the U-20 World Cup was at the 2011 edition in Colombia.
