There is palpable worry and concern ahead of the monumental Supreme Court decision on President-elect Bola Tinubu’s election.

Tinubu’s triumph despite alleged double nomination by his running mate, Kashim Shettima, will be decided by the Supreme Court today, Friday.

According to the Metrowatch, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is attempting to disqualify Tinubu and Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima for alleged multiple nominations.

The PDP argued that the act violated electoral laws.

The appellant based its appeal on grounds that the appellate court erred in law when it dismissed its appeal and upheld a trial court’s decision that the litigation was incompetent and without merit.

The ruling party broke the law by choosing Shettima as the senatorial candidate for Borno Central and vice-presidential candidate, according to the PDP.

However, the expected verdict is generating considerable concern among Nigerians.

Tinubu is set to be sworn in as Nigeria’s next president on May 29, but the Supreme Court’s decision could make or break the ceremony.

Speaking ahead of the judgement, Chuks Ibegbu, a public affairs analyst, said the ruling of the Supreme Court should not be a cause for alarm.

Ibegbu urged Nigerians not to allow themselves to be used in causing mayhem after the apex court ruling.

The chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo said: “Well the Supreme Court is the highest in the land. There should be no cause for alarm. Whatever decision they take is Supreme. We hope their decision will be the best in the interest of justice and Nigeria.

“I want to advise all Nigerians to be law abiding. Nobody should allow anybody to use him as a tool for mayhem.

“Politicians must never be allowed to sow the seed of discord on us. We have many things in common, viz- marriage, workplace relationship, religious companionship, etc, and when these politicians finally settle down in office it’s their wives, children, girlfriends, associates etc they care for and their bottomless pockets.”
