The Federal High Court sitting in Kano has nullified the candidature of Alex Otti, Abia governor-elect, as candidate of the Labour Party (LP).

The court, on Friday, also nullified the candidature all Labour Party candidates in Abia and Kano States.

The court, in its ruling by Justice M. N. Yunusa, said that the LP failed to comply with the electoral act’s provisions.

One Ibrahim Ibrahim had filed the lawsuit against the LP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), challenging LP’s failure to submit its membership register to INEC within 30 days before their primaries.

INEC had declared Otti of the Labour Party winner of the Abia State 2023 gubernatorial election held on March 22.

Otti polled 175,467 votes, while Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got 88,529 votes. Enyinnaya Nwafor of the Young Peoples Party (YPP) came third.
