The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the immediate arrest of Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti for assaulting a police officer.
IGP Baba gave the order in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday.
He said the directive to arrest the son of late Afrobeat star, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, was handed down to the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, by the IGP.
The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect.
“IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book,” the statement added.
Kuti was captured on camera assaulting a police officer in uniform. In the now-viral video that emerged on Saturday, the musician was seen pointing to the unidentified police officer before proceeding to push and slap him.
