The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a total of 57 vandals who took part directly or indirectly in the post elections violence that erupted following the announcement of the Governorship election result in the State recently.
A release signed by Command spokesman, Mohammed Shehu, stated that detectives have equally recovered some of the looted and vandalised properties in connection with the mob action due to the loss of the sitting governor.
The release recalled that, detectives led by the Commissioner of Police (CP) Kolo Yusuf, had earlier arrested 40 suspects and recovered some of the looted and vandalised properties worth millions of Naira which were showcased to the press and later charged to court and remanded in custodial services.
“As a follow up to the ongoing efforts, the following suspects and exhibits were also arrested and recovered, Yusuf Magaji also known as Mai Anguwa, 60, and 16 other suspects.
“Additional exhibits recovered include 2 semi-silent generators belonging to ministry of humanitarian affairs, Gusau, 2 standing refrigerators, vandalised doors, windows, tables, chairs, electric wires and different calibres of electronics.
“Others include sets of cushion chairs, 40 pieces of women wrappers, burglar proof for Windows, pillar reinforcement rods,” said the release.
SP Mohammed Shehu said that in the course of investigation, Suspects confessed to the commission about the offence and further narrated how they invaded APC Campaign offices belonging to Senator Kabiru Marafa and Senator Daniya and looted property worth millions of Naira.
He stated that effort is being made to arrest their collaborators and subsequently charge them to court accordingly.
Arrest of notorious bandit on wanted list
The State Police Command has also arrested a 25 year old bandit Suleiman Balarabe who held sway in the State terrorising residents for a long time.
“On 29th March, 2023 at about 0330am, Police operatives while on patrol acted on intelligence information arrested the above named suspect who was already in the wanted list of the Police for Banditry, Kidnapping and other heinous crimes against the good people of Zamfara State.
“In the course of investigation, the Suspect confessed to series of attacks and kidnappings on different communities in Zamfara State where millions of naira were collected as ransom from the relations.”
The release said that the suspect who further confessed to bearing General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) during their operations, mentioned some of his allies which the police detectives is working assiduously and discreetly to arrest.
Arrest of 2 suspects in possession of 18 rustled cows, 3 goats and 1 sheep.
The suspects includes: Umar Abdullahi 32, Sani Musa aka Dangodal 55 and Yahaya ‘aka Chairman now at large.
The release went on: “On Friday 31st March, 2023 Police while on patrol acted on intelligence information, intercepted and arrested 3 Toyota buses loaded with suspected stolen cows, sheep and goats from Dansadau to Gusau.
” On sighting the Police, the suspects attempted to abandon the vehicles and exhibits to escape, but they were rounded up and arrested by the Police operatives.
“suspects are currently undergoing discreet Investigation that will lead to the arrest of their collaborators before being charged to court.”
Arrest of a Notorious Member Of ‘Sara Suka’ Terrorising Gusau By Snatching Handsets And Other Armed Robbery.
“On Friday 31st March, 2023 Police detectives while on patrol arrested one of the notorious members of Sara Suka terrorising Gusau and its environ.
“in the course of investigation, the suspect Arabi Lawali confessed how he and his collaborators in crime robbed people of their belongings especially handsets.
“investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting other suspects and charging them to court.
“CP Kolo Yusuf while applauding the people of Zamfara State for their unalloyed support and partnership, tasked them to sustain the synergy with the Police and other security agencies for effective service delivery.” The release noted.
