A band of Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists operating in the North East region have attacked a police station in Borno State.
The terrorists reportedly attacked the outstation of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) located in the Jakana area of the state by shooting at police personnel, which drew the attention of a counter-insurgency troops who immediately engaged the terrorists.
Security sources who narrated the incident to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency medium in the Lake Chad region, said that the terrorists arrived at the scene in Kaga Local Government Area at about 2:30 a.m and started shooting at the police base using a general purpose machine gun (GPMG).
The medium posted this on its Twitter handle on Saturday, explaining that it “had earlier raised the alarm that troops should be vigilant after six motorcycles conveying two fighters each dispatched from Jalori and headed to Kagga through Markuba”.
The sources also said that security operatives engaged the insurgents in a gun duel for about 30 minutes before successfully repelling them.
With the timely deployment of troops attached to 29 Task Force Brigade, the attack was effectively contained, and the terrorists were forced to take to their heels.
It was further reported that there was no casualty. The security team recovered a bullet proof vest and two magazines while chasing the terrorists.
