The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has cleared 18 of the 20 local government areas (LGAs) in the Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Sanwo-Olu, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, has 736,171 votes from the 19 LGAs so far declared on Sunday.
He is followed closely by Labour Party (LP)’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour who presently has 292,362, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Olajide Adediran, alias Jandor, who polled 60,981 votes.
Sanwo-Olu defeated the LP governorship candidate in his LGA, Ikeja. He polled 32,273 votes to defeat Rhodes-Vivour who had 15,174.
In his own LGA, Lagos Island, the governor won by a healthy margin.
The Lagos governor also won Surulere LGA, the base of Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
In Ojo, the LGA of the PDP candidate, Sanwo-Olu also posted a convincing victory.
He secured 30,797 votes while the PDP candidate had 3,889 and Rhodes-Vivour polled 19,027.
The LP won only one LGA — Amuwo Odofin — where the party polled 34, 860 votes to defeat the APC and the PDP, who polled 17, 576 and 1, 809 votes, respectively.
Results from 19 of 20 LGAs so far announced by INEC show that while the APC won in 18 LGAs, LP is winning just one.
The remaining LGA is Eti-Osa where election is just rounding up.
Collation of results is expected to continue at 5pm, with Oladiji Adenike, INEC’s returning officer for the election, announcing a break.
