Military operatives providing security for the ongoing Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Enugu State have arrested 140 thugs allegedly deployed for the exercise.

A report by The Nation cited sources as saying the hoodlums were picked up at the popular Carollina Hotel, in Nsukka.

According to the report, another three armed hoodlums were arrested at INEC office in Nsukka.

The source said they were all armed with weapons including AK47 rifles, adding that they had confessed to have been deployed by a prominent member of a political party in the state.

The spokesman of the 82 Division of Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major Eromosele Unuakhalu, could not confirm the arrests.
