Semiu Adegesin, 45, was apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command on Friday.
According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect’s recklessness resulted in the death of Esther Samuel, a 3-year-old child.
He was apprehended when Imasayi Divisional Headquarters received a tip that a 13-year-old kid, Ope Babalola, had shot Esther.
The adolescent was accused of firing a dane gun at Kukudi village, Imasayi, Yewa North Local Government District.
SP Arowojeun Michael, Divisional Police Officer, brought detectives to the spot where the dead was found in a pool of blood.
Early inquiry indicated Semiu loaded his dane pistol and carelessly stored it in an exposed area of the house’s backyard where children play.
The child was transferred to General Hospital Ilaro, where a doctor on duty verified she had died.
Commissioner of Police Frank Mba expressed his condolences to the family and directed that the matter be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Murder Section.
