The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that there was no winner in the Feb. 25 national assembly election for the Doguwa/Tudunwada federal constituencies, of Kano State.
Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, the INEC Returning Officer for the election, announced the new development in the affected constituency while addressing journalists, on Wednesday, in Kano State.
Recall that the embattled majority leader of the House of Representatives and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhassan Doguwa, was initially proclaimed the victor of the election.
The electoral body, however, deleted his name from the list of House of Representatives-elect and did not issue the embattled lawmaker a certificate of return.
INEC claimed that Doguwa was declared winner under duress, following the arrest of the lawmaker in connection with the violence that broke out in the constituency during the collation of results.
The police had arraigned the lawmaker at a magistrate’s court which remanded him in prison. Doguwa was, however, granted a N500 million bail and barred from Saturday’s election.
At least two people were killed when a secretariat of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) was set ablaze in the area.
