The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Tuesday, visited major markets in the Benin metropolis where he received a rousing welcome from a mammoth crowd of traders, who pledged their support for the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Saturday, March 11 House of Assembly elections.
Some of the markets visited include the Uwelu and Evbareke Markets in Egor Local Government Area (LGA) and the Oba Market and Tyre Dealers Market, in Oredo LGA.
Addressing the traders, Obaseki said: “The election of Saturday, March 11, 2023, is our election in the State. My administration has been attending to roads, schools, healthcare, and electricity, and fighting land grabbers in various communities across the State. We can’t do the road now at Evbareke because we need a drainage system first; we are working on that already.
“You need not make the mistake of voting for the wrong people as they will come into the system to disrupt our developmental strategy. They were there before but followed the instructions from their godfather as they didn’t resume at the Assembly.”
He added, “They say they will impeach me when they come into the House.”
Expressing disappointment over the manipulation of the Presidential election, the governor further noted, “After the Saturday 25th February election, people got discouraged but I urge you to come out and vote en masse and prove the riggers wrong.
“They can’t steal our votes at the center and still steal our votes in the State. They have started again to share money to their lions and tigers, empowering them to cause confusion in Edo. Please support the PDP in this election.”
On her part, the PDP candidate for the State House of Assembly Election, representing Egor Constituency, Natasha Irobosa Osawaru said, “This election is for Edo State House of Assembly. Governor Obaseki has done well for the State and I urge you all to come out en masse to vote for the PDP to enable us to support the governor to continue with his developmental strides in the State.”
Also, the Chairman of Uwelu Spare Parts Market, Osa Collins, while commending the governor’s achievements across various sectors of the state, noted, “I am happy you are here with us. We know all you have been doing in the aspects of education, and electricity, among others. I also believe that Natasha Irobosa Osawaru as a youth, can identify with and satisfy our yearnings, advocate for us, and change the narrative. So, we will all come out and vote for her.”
Chairman of Auto Spare Parts Dealers Association, Evbareke Market, Osamuyi Iyamu, on behalf of the traders, assured the governor of their support for the PDP in the forthcoming House of Assembly elections.
