Muhammad Bala, a 22-year-old tailor from Adamawa State, has been detained by police for reportedly stabbing a rival to death.
Muhammad, who is from Mararaba in Madagali LGA, is accused of murdering his neighbour, Bakura, over a dispute over a girl they were reportedly sharing.
Muhammad was said to have killed Bakura in a scuffle on February 15 at the compound of a 17-year-old girl named Maryam Mohammed.
Muhammad confessed to stabbing Bakura in the throat over the adolescent, whom he said he proposed to after three years of dating.
According to the police, Bakura asserted that the adolescent girl was his and cautioned Muhammed not to touch her.
The stage was thus set when they both met at the girl’s place on the fateful February 15 and began the fight when Muhammed allegedly used a knife in his possession to stab Bakura who slumped and died instantly.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, assured that the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution.
