Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, has congratulated Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu, on his victory at the 2023 presidential election.
Sunak in a tweet on Wednesday night, noted that he looks forward to working with Tinubu and establish a stronger bilateral relationship with the country.
“Congratulations to @officialABAT on his victory in Nigeria.
“I look forward to working together to grow our security and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses and creating prosperity in both our countries,” he tweeted.
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, had in the early hours of Wednesday, declared Tinubu the winner of the keenly contested election which held last Saturday.
Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat his closest rivals, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party’s Peter Obi who had 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes respectively.
