Former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Peter Fayose, has congratulated President-elect Bola Tinubu on his victory in the last Saturday’s presidential election.

“I congratulate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on his election as the next President of Nigeria,” Fayose, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain tweeted, Wednesday.

Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was on Wednesday declared as the winner of the February 25, 2023 presidential election with 8,794,726 votes by Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

He defeated his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 6,984,520 votes, with Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP) coming third with 6,101,533 votes, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) taking fourth place with 1,496,687 votes.

Fayose, in the series of tweets, also called on National Chairman of his party, Iyorchia Ayu, to immediately resign.

He called on presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, to accept defeat in the interest of the nation.

“As for the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, I call for his immediate resignation for his inability to move the party forward.

“As the presidential election comes to an end, I urge other contestants, especially Atiku Abubakar to accept the outcome in the overall interest of our country. There will always be another day,” Fayose tweeted.
