Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, is in the lead following Saturday’s general election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had released collated results in 20 states as of Monday night.

Tinubu now leads with 5,862,453 votes, while PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar has received 4,288,434 votes.

With 2,834,932 votes, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, is now in third position; Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, received 1,315,549.

Tinubu, however, is the sole prominent contender who did not win his own state, losing Lagos to Obi. Atiku triumphed in President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state of Katsina.

The results from the other states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, are likely to be released today at 11 a.m.

The International Conference Centre, ICC, in Abuja, which serves as the national collation center, remains heavily guarded.

On Monday, the opposition asked for a halt to the release of results. Dino Melaye and Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP left the ICC at some time.

The parties complained of irregularities, over-voting, refusal of officials to upload results on the INEC website, among others.

Checks show that out of 176,846 polling units in 774 local government areas, submitted results are from 79,673 units.
