Barely 48 hours to the 2023 presidential election, leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue South Senatorial District have resolved to work for the victory of Atiku Abubakar, the party’s flag-bearer in the Saturday election.
metrowatchxtra reports that the resolution was reached at a stakeholders meeting of the PDP held on Thursday in Otukpo, the country home of former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark.
A statement issued by Paul Mumeh, Media Adviser to Sen. Mark, and made available to metrowatchxtra, noted that the leaders agreed to work for Atiku as their interest would be better served under the ex-vice president’s presidency.
Benue is the home state of Governor Samuel Ortom, a member of the PDP, who has since openly declared support for the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, following the disagreement between his G-5 group with Atiku.
However, the David Mark-led Benue South PDP stakeholders said they cannot be faithful members of the party and be seen to be working for candidates of other political parties.
They, therefore, urged all party members “not to be distracted by the antics of a few”, but go all out to vote for candidates of the PDP in the February 25, 2023 and March 11, 2023 elections.
Addressing the stakeholders drawn for the nine local government areas making up Benue South Senatorial District, Sen. Mark urged the people to be faithful to PDP “because it makes no sense for people to be jumping from one party to the other.”
He said political parties are vehicles for achieving ones political ambition that must of a necessity be held sacrosanct obeying the rules and regulations.
Senator Mark frowned at those who jump from one party to the other saying “they are people without conviction or do not know what they really want”.
On his part, the Senator currently representing the Benue South senatorial district, Senator Abba Moro, urged the party faithful to remain steadfast with the PDP.
