Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 25 Enugu East Senatorial District election, Mr. Oyibo Chukwu, has been murdered barely 48 hours to the exercise.
According to reports, Chukwu was killed by unknown gunmen at Amechi, in the Awkunanaw local government area of Enugu while returning from a campaign rally.
It was gathered that the LP candidate was murdered alongside five of his supporters, while the killers were said to have burnt them inside the car they drove in.
The governorship candidate of the LP in Enugu, Mr. Chijioke Edeoga, confirmed the incident to newsmen, describing it as unfortunate.
He said his party members are being targeted for assassination by political parties which felt threatened by the rise of the Labour Party in the state.
At at the time of filing this report, the Enugu police command is yet to react to the incident.
