Buhari for global conference on agric in Senegal

Today, President Muhammadu Buhari will fly to Dakar, Senegal, for the second Dakar International Conference on Agriculture.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Lagos for Senegal on Tuesday (January 24), where he will attend the second edition of the Dakar International Conference on Agriculture,” said his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja.

“The high-level Dakar 2 Summit, hosted by President Macky Sall of Senegal and chairperson of African Union (AU), is holding under the theme: Feeding Africa: Food Sovereignty and Resilience.

“The conference, which seeks to create favourable conditions towards achieving food security in Africa, is convened by the government of Senegal and African Development Bank (AfDB).

“There will also be side meetings to discuss agreements on delivery of food and agricultural products in some countries, including Nigeria.

“With Africa accounting for 249 million or a third of 828 million hungry people in the world, the summit, to be attended by African Heads of State and Government, ministers of Finance and Agriculture, as well as several global development partners, is expected to make commitments on eradicating hunger in Africa by 2030,” the statement said.

The President’s delegation comprises ministers and top government officials; Geoffrey Onyeama (Foreign Affairs), Dr. Mohammad Abubakar (Agriculture and Rural Development).

Others are: Mohammed Babagana Monguno (National Security Adviser), and Ambassador Ahmed Abubakar (Director General, National Intelligence Agency).

President Buhari is expected back in the country tomorrow.
