Globacom on Friday, January 20, in Abuja presented the keys to a
three-bedroom house to yet another winner in the Festival of Joy
promotion, Ridwan Ajamu Bello.
But Bello had the day before that played out a frustrating drama after
his number popped up as winner of the house. He was called up earlier
after the draw on Thursday and informed about his new fortune. Instead
of showing up as requested by Globacom officials, he refused to go to
Globacom’s Aminu Kano Crescent office for over three hours, thinking it
was a scam.
It took the intervention of officials of the Nigerian Communications
Commission (NCC) and the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC)
who also told the 28-year-old Mathematics graduate of Ekiti State
University that he had indeed won a house in the Glo promo.
Several Glo subscribers, including the Chairman of ThisDay Editorial
Board, Mr Segun Adeniyi, who were at the shop to transact business, got
interested in the drama and decided to stay back to see if the “doubting
Thomas” would eventually show up.
When Bello later arrived at the Gloworld shop, he had to apologize for
keeping everyone waiting. “Please forgive me. At first it was difficult
to believe. You know how these days we have a lot of people claiming to
be what they are not, all kinds of scam calls. But when I started
getting calls from different people from Glo and then the NCC and NLRC
people also speaking and asking me to come to Glo office, I now thought
that this could actually be my lucky day. I thank Glo for this
opportunity, it’s beyond what I can express”, Ajamu disclosed.
A highly elated Bello stormed the Galadimawa area, Abuja, where the
property is located on Friday with friends and family members to take
possession of his prize. He thus joins scores of other Glo subscribers
who have won houses, brand new cars, and the other valuable prizes in
the promotion in various cities across the country such as Lagos, Ijebu
Ode, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Warri and Jos.
In his remark at the event, Senator Amos Bulus Kilawangs, who was the
Guest of honour, lauded Globacom for showing a high level of integrity
and transparency in the promo. “There are so many companies in Nigeria,
but Glo has shown it is second to none in CSR. What I feel inside of me
is beyond what I can express”, he said.
Another special guest, former Director General of NLRC, Mr Peter Igho,
who was also a special guest, commended Glo for standing up “as a true
Nigerian champion. I commend the company for putting a roof over the
heads of so many Nigerians.”
