The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, set a limit of only 18 days for the stoppage of the circulation of the old Naira notes, and the top bank has said it won’t extend the date.

The CBN informed Nigerians in a Facebook post on its verified page on Friday that the new notes of N200, N500, and N1000 will stop being accepted as legal money on January 31.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari officially unveiled the new N200, N500, and N1000 notes on November 23, 2022, at the CBN.

Beginning on December 15, 2022, the new currency notes were in use.

Nigerians should return their old notes before the deadline, the apex bank said.

“A reminder to the general public that the old series of N200, N500 and N1000 notes cease to be legal tender by January 31, 2023.

”You are once again advised to return them to your bank before the deadline,” CBN wrote.
