Randy Waldrum, head coach of the Super Falcons, has outlined his team’s objective for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Waldrum’s team lost their African title to South Africa last year and have gone winless in their past five games.
Despite repeated criticism of his squad, the American remains optimistic about the West Africans’ chances of qualifying for the World Cup.
“The first target for us at the World Cup is to advance out of the group stage,” Waldrum told the nff.com.
“Everyone wants to get to the knockout stage but obviously in order to achieve that, you have to advance out of the group and now, our focus is principally on doing that.”
The Super Falcons are drawn in Group A along with co-hosts Australia, Canada and the Republic of Ireland.
The team will be domiciled in Brisbane where they will play two of their three matches, with the other game in another Australian city, Melbourne.
The competition will run from July 20 to August 20, 2023.
