The Delta State House of Assembly Wednesday passed the Delta State Electric Power Sector Bill, 2022.
This followed the third reading of the Bill on the floor of the House after the suspension of Order 12, rules 82 and 83 of the Delta House of Assembly to enable its eventual passage.
It would be recalled that the Bill, after its second reading earlier, was refered to the House Committee on Power and Energy.
Sponsored by the member representing Ika North East State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Anthony Emeka Elekeokwuri, the Bill when signed into law, would help in repositioning the State power sector as it would give the sector the legal backing to generate, distribute and transmit power to its citizens.
In his address shortly after the passage, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori commended the lawmakers for their legislative inputs that resulted in the eventual passage of the Bill.
He expressed the hope that the passage of the Delta Electric Power Sector Bill would further strengthen the State power sector just as he noted that it would further help in revitalizing the State economy.
Also at Wednesday’s plenary, the lawmakers stepped down the proposed confirmation of Mr. Sunday Utuodor as Secretary to Isoko North Local Government council.
Although screened, the lawmakers refused to confirm his appointment following what they described as irregularities in his curriculum vitae.
He was advised to go home and tidy up his resume and report back to the House on Tuesday, October, 25, this year.
