Tongues are wagging within the top hierarchy of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over the BoT report on Senator Iyorchia Ayu that read to the public on Friday.
Ayu, embattled National Chairman of PDP, is already bogged down by allegations of corruption leveled against him by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Following the uproar that greeted the allegations, the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) raised a peace committee which also met with the Rivers Governor.

One of the beats of the committee is to settle the lingering leadership tussle bedeviling the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The committee headed by the acting BoT chairman and former senate president, Senator Adolphus Wabara submitted its report on Friday after which the outcome was read to the public.

A section of the party’s top hierarchy has raised an eyebrow after the BoT report was read, which the group claimed was doctored to favour Ayu, who was present the meeting.

The agrieved group within the party’s top hierarchy alleged that  what was read to the media was not the actual or original report put together by the members of the committee which met with Governor Nyesom Wike and other critical stakeholders on the issue.

According to a source, Ayu who is also a member of the BoT, was the first to arrive at the venue of the meeting where the report was to be submitted.

The Original Report…

Top on the document or the original report was that Ayu should resign with immediate effect, as a matter of integrity and in the interest of the party.

According to our source who pleaded anonymity, Ayu was also asked to apologize to the party and Nigerians for the embarrassment he has caused everyone.

The source, who was part of the meeting, confirmed that all that was read out to the press was totally different from the original report and asked the Nigerians to demand original copies of the report submitted by the Wabara committee.

He said: “Ayu whose issue was being discussed became the first to arrive at the venue of the meeting and he came prepared with some members who have been known to be behind his insistence on remaining as the chairman.

“They opposed those areas where the committee stated in its report that Ayu should resign with immediate effect and apologize.

“This aspect was expunged before taking the report to the public and this didn’t go down well with some of us but they were shouting on top of their voices that the chairman must not be disgraced out, hence you saw the twisted report that was issued to the press today”.

A Plea for action…

“The media and the public should now challenge Wabara, whom we all see as a man of honour to release the original document containing the actual report and I can assure you that Nigerians will be shocked to see how people who say they want to rule Nigeria could be so deceitful, our source asserted.

He asked: “Why should Ayu be in a meeting where issues about his nefarious activities are being discussed and he more or less presided over the meeting with his loyalists ensuring the actual report was killed and never read out?

Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike, had earlier on Friday revealed another scandalous involvement of embattled PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu in the collection of a whopping sum of ₦100 million from a governor.

The CUPP Onslaught…

Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has insisted that the embattled national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP must be removed from office.

This was as the coalition has scheduled to meet with the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike to present a working road path to final resolution of the crisis.
Spokesman of CUPP, Ikenga Ugochinyere in a statement on Friday said that Ayu’s removal was not negotiable, stressing it will help restore the integrity of the PDP and unite the party.

Ugochinyere, also a PDP candidate for Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State added that removing Ayu will bring equity in the party, adding that the candidates of PDP in the South were facing marginalisation.
“The corruption and bribery allegation against Ayu have presented a huge credibility problem for PDP, the removal of Ayu will offer a new confidence in rebuilding the party. I have times without number appealed to Ayu and the party’s national secretary, Anyanwu not to drag the image of the Party to the mud and cried at the briefing that PDP is facing a marketing challenges with Ayu still in office.

“Ayu is a man who is arrogant, divisive, abuses due process and unfit to remain in office”, he said.
