Chairman of the Zamfara State Football Association, Ibrahim Musa Gusau has been elected as the new President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

Gusau was on Tuesday elected 40th President of the NFF at the General Assembly (GA) of the Federation held at the Edo Heritage Hotel, in Benin City, Edo State.

He polled 39 out of 41 delegate votes to be declared winner. While a former Nigeria goalkeeper, Idah Peterside polled just one vote, a vote was declared invalid. Three members of Congress abstained from the exercise.

The exercise monitored by metrowatchxtra correspondent, Ogochukwu Isioma, was relatively peaceful.

Earlier, a re-run was ordered after Ibrahim Gusau failed to poll the constitutional 50 per cent (22/44) Congress members’ votes to be validly declared winner.

Gusau had polled 21 votes ahead of NFF’s 1st Vice President, Seyi Akunwunmi, who garnered 12 votes. The 2nd VP, Shehu Dikko, who reportedly enjoys outgoing President Amaju Pinnick’s support, had only 6 votes.

But at the re-run, all candidates except former International Peterside who scored just one vote stepped down for Gusau.

Gusau replaces Pinnick who recently completed his second term in office. The new NFF president is a CAF committee member and currently sits on the NFF board as the chairman of all states’ football association chairmen.

metrowatchxtra reports that the Pinnick led 39th NFF board was officially dissolved at the congress today to usher in a new administration to take charge of the NFF for the next four years.

The event which was declared open by Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, was witnessed by CAF and FIFA officials.
